TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) – Tucson police officers have arrested a man suspected of firing a gun at the Hub Apartments in downtown Tucson.
Police said Tuesday, June 28, that 23-year-old Noah Smith was charged with the following felonies:
- Discharging a firearm at a residence.
- Misconduct involving a firearm.
- Narcotic drug possession.
Police cleared the student housing apartment complex after a single gunshot was reported there at about 4:30 p.m. on Monday, June 27.
According to the interim complaint, a woman called 911 and complained that Smith was banging on a door and “cocking” a gun on the fifth floor. The caller reported that Smith had done this the day previously, and she’d also called 911 then.
Smith was reportedly associated with an apartment near hers.
The caller said she saw him standing in the hallway, where he cocked the door while looking at her. When she closed the door, she said, the gun went off.
Security video shows Smith running to the stairwell and hiding the gun in a fire extinguisher cabinet on the seventh floor. He was found outside the complex and refused to give a statement.
Police say they also found 23 grams of cocaine and $1,200 on Smith.
Authorities say they searched the complex and found no injuries or threats to the public.
Police say there is no indication Smith is a resident at the apartments but may have acquaintances within the complex. He is currently booked in Pima County Jail.
