HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Six people today were being arrested for trespassing Friday amid a bitter dispute among a Kunia landowner and customers of the paramilitary “Occupied Forces Hawaii Army” team.
Lawyers for the landowner stated the sovereignty group’s members have been squatting on agricultural land in close proximity to the Hawaii Country Club because September. Before this month, the group was served with eviction papers.
“This is not a native Hawaiian team seeking sovereignty or anything for an indigenous result in. These are wayward, rogue, uneducated people,” said Tom Berg, who manages the house and the nearby Hawaii County Club golfing system.
On Friday morning, dozens of Honolulu police officers and condition deputy sheriffs converged on the space and informed the group’s customers they would require to go away immediately.
4 guys and two gals were arrested on next-degree trespassing costs.
About a dozen persons, mostly ladies and young children, voluntarily still left the residence.
Customers of Occupied Forces Hawaii detect themselves as a Hawaiian sovereignty team, dress in army outfits and claim armed service titles. The landowner reported some of the households have been squatting on the residence for nine months but at least two of the members assert they have ancestral rights to the land.
“This land belong to my people. The us stole this land. That doesn’t make it theirs. It does not make it theirs,” said a single of the women of all ages as she confronted law enforcement.
But investigative reporter and blogger Ian Lind reported the group’s promises have tiny benefit.
“They haven’t put ahead any respectable declare,” Lind stated.
“They have claimed to have a possession desire in the assets by heirdom, which means basically that they can they say at least two individuals can trace their relatives lineage back again to the original holder of a land patent.”
If any person can go and only say: ‘I’m similar to the dude in 1848, he was my great-good-good-excellent grandfather and so I individual your residence, get out!’ That is a is a frontal assault on all the things that our society rests on.”
