FARGO — The Fargo Faculty Board on Tuesday, June 14, accredited at least a few means it will use a newly produced statement acknowledging that land used by the district at first belonged to Indigenous men and women.

When the district recently designed a land acknowledgment statement, it joined a range of other institutions in the location that have performed the exact same point, which include the

The university district’s land acknowledgment statement reads:

“Fargo Public Schools respectfully acknowledges that we acquire on the lands of the Oceti Sakowin, who are the Dakota, Lakota, and Nakoda people, and the Anishinaabe people today of this area.”

The Fargo-West Fargo General public Educational institutions Indian Education team worked to establish the land acknowledgment assertion this spring, and it was drafted in consultation with regional tribal nations and neighborhood Native American entities, according to materials furnished by the school district.

On Tuesday, the faculty board adopted suggestions on how the assertion can be utilized that were made by the district’s Communications, Engagement and Advocacy Committee.

Approaches the assertion can be utilized contain:

• Inserting it at the base of all normal, special and standing committee assembly agendas.
• Obtaining it read by the board president each year at the board’s reorganizational assembly in July.
• Applying it at board occasions at board member discretion.
